Cookie policy

The short version: up-side.org doesn't use tracking, advertising or analytics cookies. This page explains what that means and what little the site does use.

Last updated: 11 September 2026.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser, used to remember who you are, track what you do, or keep a page working. "Similar technologies" covers things like local storage and tracking pixels that do a similar job.

Cookies this site uses

As of the date above, up-side.org sets no cookies. It's a simple, static website with no accounts, no forms and no logins.

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, could in future set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the site from automated abuse, for example a bot-protection cookie. If we switch that on, we'll name it here, with its purpose and how long it lasts. A cookie like that exists to keep the site secure, not to track you, so it wouldn't need your consent under EU law (more on that below).

What this site doesn't use

Our fonts are hosted on our own server rather than Google Fonts, so there are no font-related cookies either. The homepage animation loads two small code libraries from unpkg.com, a code delivery network; it serves static files and sets no cookies of its own.

Links to other sites

Some links on this site lead elsewhere: our LinkedIn page, and a handful of short links that forward to documents on Google Docs or diagrams on Kumu. Once you land on one of those sites, their own cookie and privacy policies apply, not ours. See LinkedIn's cookie policy and Google's cookie policy for details.

How to control cookies

Since this site doesn't set tracking cookies, there's nothing here to opt out of. If you want to manage cookies generally, including any security cookie we might add later, or cookies on sites we link to, your browser can do that: check its settings or help pages for how to view, delete or block cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies can stop some sites, not just ours, working properly.

Legal basis and your rights

Strictly necessary cookies, the kind Cloudflare might use for security, are exempt from consent under the EU's ePrivacy rules and the Dutch Telecommunications Act. That's why this page doesn't have a cookie banner: banners are for cookies that need your permission, and right now none of ours do. If that changes, say we add analytics later, we'll update this page and add proper consent controls before switching anything on.

For how we handle personal data more broadly, including your rights under GDPR, see our privacy statement.

Who's responsible for this policy

This site is run by UpSide, a not-for-profit based in Amsterdam. Questions about cookies or privacy go to info [at] up-side.org.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if what the site does changes, for example if we add analytics or features that need cookies. Last updated: 11 September 2026.
